Yes, he still had lingering, unresolved issues from his time in the Army, and sure, he had what Bucky annoyingly referred to as a criminally untapped ass and no life outside of work and Peter, but Steve was okay with how his life had turned out because of trusting his instincts.

Unfortunately, those same instincts had straight up betrayed him by going absolutely haywire upon being exposed to Tony Stark.

Veteran single dad Steve runs a tattoo shop. For his 40th birthday, Pepper arranges for Tony to get that tattoo he always wanted, and he winds up with the mother of all crushes instead. Jumping out of airplanes is one thing, but falling in love is something else entirely. Steve struggles with the idea of actually letting someone into his life. Tony is left trying to keep his heart from being broken while Steve figures things out.

The third and fourth he keeps with guilty conscious because there is something about the other man's voice that his broken brain latches onto. With the fifth, tearful and pleading, Bucky confesses to Steve who convinces him to call the number and tell the guy he misdialed. When he finally begins to work up the nerve the sixth comes through it stops him in his tracks.

‘Hey Jarvis, just me. I’m OK, mostly. A little beat up, but hey, that’s Howard. I just wanted… I just.... goddammit. Fuck J I miss you so much! God. Final semester of MIT starts soon and Rhody won't be there and you aren't here because you're gone and it's all my fault!’ Broken sobbing interrupted the message and Bucky felt his heart constrict. ‘Why’d you have to die Jarvis? The Avengers do what they can to keep little-Tony happy until they can get Strange to come take a look at him, and (hopefully) change him back to his rightful age. It's not so easy dealing with a traumatized five-year-old, though, especially one who has some major attachment issues. Toward Bucky, of all people. Throw in some HYDRA shenanigans, and it makes for an interesting time, if not the most peaceful. Older-Tony isn't going to appreciate how much little-Tony blabs, either, but it's pretty hard to tell a five-year-old to shut up when no one wants to hurt his feelings...

Tony is born with a soulmark.

Everyone is born with a mark- unless their soulmate is already dead. What’s unusual is how sometimes Tony has a mark and sometimes he doesn’t.

No one knows what to do with that. Marks only disappear when a person’s soulmate is dead. But one day, Tony had a mark and then the next he didn’t. Tony had barely had enough time to realize that something was wrong before it was back.

Steve is also born with a mark.

But when Steve is injected with the serum, his mark changes. Marks aren’t supposed to change. They’re supposed to remain static, as static as the fact that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

The Asset doesn't know if he was born with a mark or not.

He would probably say that he was born with one because everyone seems to have one but, if it's not important to his mission, then he doesn't know.

He does have one though. It appears immediately on his metal arm the first time they attach it to his shoulder.
