Summary:
Loyalties are like water in many ways and Aizen is a master at controlling them.
Ichigo had never fully been a part of his plan. Aizen did have to admit that the boy’s appearance in the Soul Society had greatly lent itself to sowing chaos and confusion among the Shinigami, but his own simple, smiling appearance and the facade he’d built up would have been enough by itself. The boy was an unforeseen part of his grand scheme, but not an inopportune one. Now that Ichigo was in his keeping he no longer had to worry about what chaos the boy might bring to bear against him.
The neutralization of that power had left him one option – turn it to his own use. Simple in theory and in word, but there was that small, minuscule problem of the boy’s current loyalty to the Shinigami that must be conquered first.
Grimmjow and Ulquiorra were working on that for him, but as Aizen watched the boy toss on his bed, plagued perhaps by memories of what waking held in store for him, he wondered if a more personal touch was called for.
I decided to read the 3 chapters of Captive before I commented. My biggest gripe with fanfiction is usually when writers decide to take away the “character” away from the character (OOC). Not that I have any right to say what a writer can and cannot write but it is my personal taste to see in fanfiction the characters that people know and love being portrayed like they do in the anime, books, etc.
What you have effectively done in this series is kept the characters of Bleach in character and, for which, I applaud you. I have read a lot of Bleach fanfiction and some are . . . not of the greatest quality, as you probably already know.
We see so many times in the manga and anime the Ichigo who is stubborn, who prevails all evil, who doesn’t go down without a fight and it is refreshing to see Ichigo NOT fight (he fights a little but it is a losing battle). There is no where to turn and all he can do is give in. Each story we see Ichigo slowly being broken down by Ulquiorra, Grimmjow, and finally, Aizen. This series makes me really loathe Aizen even more than I did before. Aizen is not just breaking Ichigo down on a physical level but on a psychological level as well.
I don’t know if you are going to continue the series but you are doing a great job so far! Keep up the good work!
